Using only the oldest and the best casks used to mature sweet and subtle dessert wines gives this blend an unprecedented taste and flavor of ripe fruit and warm spices. It is truly a unique sensory explosion for your enjoyment. This vinous character certainly adds a greater depth in combination with the matured superior designer casks and is the secret to the unique Non Plus Ultra taste. Nothing is left to chance, not the beautifully faceted carafe, not the deep glow, and certainly not the enjoyment you will experience when you try your first taste. This is truly world-class. Its Non Plus Ultra – Ambre d’Or Excellence with a very rich taste of aromatic pickled plums, and a nose of yellow plums with orange peel.
Pickled yellow plums with orange peel, heather honey and a slight aromatic burnt note from the oak barrels, shortbread biscuits and a light floral, scented overtone.
The taste of the ripe and aromatic pickled plums dominates the taste, but all the notes from the nose are present.
The rich taste tones out very, very gradually.

Non Plus Ultra means ‘nothing further beyond’ in Latin. An expression said to have been engraved on the Pillars of Hercules, as a warning to mark the boundary between the known and unknown world in the Strait of Gibraltar. A.H. Riise Non Plus Ultra “Black Edition” is likewise found on the border between the known and unknown; only the very best drops from aged rum barrels are used to create this ultimate blend from A.H. Riise.
150 years ago, A.H. Riise put Danish rum from the West Indies on the world map under the trademark “Old St. Croix”. The island of St. Croix – The Garden of the West Indies – was the center of cultivation of sugarcane and the production of sugar in the Danish West Indies from the early 1700s. The by-product molasses was used to make rum. To this day, the heart of our blends continues to be distilled on molasses.
In 1928, the Paiewonsky family purchased the buildings of the Riise Pharmacy. A. H. Riise Gifts and Liquor Store is still managed by the family, and these custom rums distilled by the Cruzan Rum Distillery were a great success from 1925 to 1965, after which they were discontinued.
